Homework

I am quite impressed.

That blurry Grim Reaper on the left is me.

That picture is how I have been doing homework since I started Uni.

When you think of homework you probably imagine going home and getting set up on a desk or kitchen table with your books and notes neatly organized. Not me, I sit on my bed in front of the tv and start a video game, with my books and notes all scattered across my bed.

At work I can sit at a desk in front of a computer and stare at the screen all day. Whether or not I’m zoning out doesn’t matter because I can focus. It can only be because there is nothing else there I like to distract me. I have windows in my office and even though one time my office window was facing a busy street, the sun was also shining on that side so if I wanted to look out I’d get hit in the face with painful sunshine so that kept me facing forward.

At home, I have so many fun things to do, and I don’t have time to do all of them so I do all of them at the same time. Mostly, it’s just two things at once, like sewing and watching anime or playing video games and doing homework. I’m a grown up and I still think homework is stupid.

Again, the picture above is me playing Call of Duty and reading for an English class. I’d read while we’re loading into a game and when I died waiting to respawn. The only time doing both was a bit difficult was when I was in Color Theory and had to paint. I’d mix the colors and get started but if I had a good game where I didn’t die much, the paint would dry and I’d have to remix the paint to the exact color and sometimes I would just throw it together and hope the differences didn’t show up too much. Those are the times an adultier adult would tell me I should just be doing homework. Then Adult Me would throw a teenage fit and say NO, I’LL DO WHAT I WANT. I made an A in that class. How you like that!

But doing both has its advantages. I’ve had teammates help me with homework several times. I’d ask them what something means or what they think about one of my answers. They were always willing to help. Only one time I couldn’t get any help because no one understood microeconomics math. They were all like ??? And I don’t blame them, I had the book and notes right in front of me and I was like ???

Online classes have advantages too! I had a test on the same day as a concert. I took my laptop and hotspotted my phone and sat in the backseat with my book and notes and took the test on the way to the show. I hit the SUBMIT TEST button right as we turned into the venue parking lot. I enjoyed that night with a clear conscience.
